tbf by that stage the stickies were already almost irrelevant. from 69 onwards the Provisionals were the IRA imo. its just british media spin calling them dissidents.

i'm pretty biased though tbf.

Yeah mate, the pics are on fbook or IR.net (whichever you have). He spoke about walking through faeces on the floor, how Harry Fitz dropped his flask in it and a screw picked it up and held it over Harry's meal so it would be covered in faeces.

we were on a cross community building bridges type thing not long after with a protestant school and someone made a joke about it, i got sent home for battering him and singing IRA songs. the building bridges didn't quite work.

Dáil appoints trustees for the National Loan and its terms are delineated. It also states that the loan will become the first charge on the Revenue of the Irish Republic after the English have evacuated Ireland.

Prominent Protestant Sinn Féin member in Belfast, Sam Heron, arrested for making a seditious speech in Castlewellan. At his trail on the 13th August, he refuses to recognise the court and goes on hunger strike. He is soon released.

1921

A British Army group escorting the body of Constable Bradford was ambushed at Newbridge, Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary resulting in the death of one soldier (Pte Smith of the First Devons).

1936

IRA proscribed by the Free State

An RIC cycle patrol is attacked at Clonee Wood, near Bantry, Co. Cork. One RIC man (Constable James Brett) is killed and two seriously wounded. The IRA is under the command of Maurice Donegan, O/C Bantry Battalion, Cork No. 3 Brigade

1921

Irish bishops after meeting in Maynooth issue a statement saying that there would be no peace in Ireland until the right of the Irish people to choose their own form of government had been acknowledged. (De Valera had tried to persuade them to recognise the Irish Government as the legitimate government of Ireland but they refused to do this.)

The Workhouses in Skibbereen and Bandon, Co Cork are burnt to the ground by the IRA as they think they may be taken over to house British troops.

1922

An elderly Catholic, William Miller (70) of Willowfield St in east Belfast was breaking wood in his back yard when men climbed over his back wall and shot him – he died later. Also, a Protestant, John Ireland (37), was shot dead by the British Army in the York St area of Belfast.

1919 RIC District Inspector Hunt shot dead in the Market Sq in Thurles by IRA man Jim Stapleton. (The IRA party wore no masks.)

1920 A 7-man British army foot patrol is ambushed and disarmed by a 21-man party of IRA men at the junction of Carmody St and O'Connell St in Ennis, Co Clare. The IRA were led by Joe Barrett, O/C Mid-Clare Brigade Flying Column.

1921 Large scale sweep near Rathcoole, Co Cork. An IRA man (Michael Dineen) from the Kilcorney Company, Millstreet Battalion is taken from his brother's house at Ivale, Kilcorney and shot dead by Auxiliaries. Also, a number of IRA men captured 'by pure chance'.

IRA column waiting in ambush at Ballycastle, Co Mayo is itself attacked on three sides resulting in the death of one IRA man.

1922 Three Catholics are killed by Specials in Cushendall, Co. Antrim.

In Belfast, a Catholic teenager, Leo Rea, is fatally wounded by loyalists as he makes his way to work. The Protestant manager, William Kirkwood, of Hughes and Díckson’s mill in Divis St., Belfast was shot dead on his lunchbreak
